Music World and Open Source - A Talk in the Time of GSoC

Hello Friends,

Not leaving what we are discussing about. But just to introduce something the world needs, it is extremely related to the Music World, the computer World. Now I compelled to post this topic because it is the time of Google Summer of Code, the Google SoC 2009, where the students around the world competes to win the Google scholarship around $4500, more than that the student can show their ability in coding, developing a new software or product related to the programming world that may be web development, software development, embedded development, fixing a bug, or it can be a documenatation that well describe an application.

More than everything the contribution of students is to the open world, the free world. Where the people who bought a product have the right to sell his product, make change and thus customizing the product thus far from the copyrighted products and the system that provides just a license to use the product and one can't re-edit the code or sell the product, like the Windows and other Microsoft products.
Now comes to the topic of music world. There is a lot to do for the open source world by the students and organizations who contributing to the Google SoC, especially for the Linux world. I just present something related to the music world, because the blog is tagged to that area.
There is some open source projects under way like Audacity, that is very useful open source software project that allows the peoples who are interested in Free software, and doing somethig with Audio (or sound). The audacity has many facilities like sound record, mix, karaoke building, i.e removing vocals. Similaly there is many open source projects under way like this related to music and music world.

Even Audacity is an excellent wok, there need some improvements for Audacilty in its vocal removal to compete with the copyrighted products like Sound Forge by Sony Creatives and Gold Wave etc. Audacity is simple to work with but the quality and effort needed to develop a karaoke from a song, i.e. the effort needed to remove the vocal and its quality is less compared to the copyrighted products. But the Audacity team is efficient and their aim too is to provide the best quality product, their excellent effort too will make the product to above all these software soon. This time too I hopes audacity will be a part of Google SoC 2009, and then they will get a number of slots to provide students to participate in GSoC and the students who are good in sound processing will take part in GSoC with Audacity as a mentoring organization. Peoples who are using audacity will be interested in getting a high quality plugin for audacity to remove the vocals. So as a interest to music world we too hopes the audacity will focus in improving the quality of the plugin and thus the organization will allot atleast one slot to this work. That is why it came as a part of the blog pcmusicstudio.

Best of luck to Audacity to come as a mentoring organization this time too, and to the student world who seeks to be part of open source and free software world, more than all to get a good experience with the audacity and Google SoC 2009.

Message for students:-

Participating in SoC is not simple, you must work hard to get your slot with any organization, audacity or any other organization you seek. If you complete the project you are slected to do for you will get a scholarship from Google and is aound $4500. Also you will get certificate from the Google and you will get fame with the organization and the world who uses your software or other, i.e. your work.

You will need to spend more time with organization admin via IRC's or mailing list and also with the Google SoC group mailing list too.

Try Better with Google SoC, You Can Win!!!

Best of luck to All of you!!!
